CSV is a simple text format aimed at easy tabular data exchange. File consists of rows of data with values separated by a separator - usually comma.

Thanks to its simplicity and readablity without specialized software this format has been adopted by a wide range of applications. It's limitations have been later solved by adoption of XML which is much more universal yet more complex and therefor not as easy to read. Mailkit supports import of mailing lists and other data in both the CSV and XML formats.

The most common example of an application with CSV support is Microsoft Excel but you can find CSV export option in almost every application for data management - ranging from address books to analytics.
